SAY GOODBYE TO RED BUMPS AND IRRITATION AFTER SHAVING

Tips to Prevent Ingrown Hairs and Folliculitis

Ingrown hairs and folliculitis are two common skin issues that can be both uncomfortable and unsightly. These problems often occur after shaving and waxing, but with the right preparation and aftercare, you can enjoy smooth skin without irritation.

Ingrown Hairs

A typical cause of ingrown hairs is dead skin cells blocking the hair follicle, forcing the hair to grow downwards. This can also happen if the follicle has been damaged, preventing the hair from emerging as it should. This is particularly common in areas with coarse or curly hair, making skin problems especially prevalent after intimate shaving.

Ingrown hairs can cause itching, irritation, swelling, and redness.

Folliculitis

Folliculitis, or inflammation of the hair follicles, often occurs after shaving or waxing. This inflammation happens when bacteria enter open, damaged hair follicles. Folliculitis appears as small red or yellow spots — similar to blemishes — around the follicles and can be tender or itchy.

How to Avoid These Problems

Shave Properly

Apply a thin layer of Shaving Cream to dry or damp skin. Always use a sharp razor and try to shave in the direction of hair growth. Change your razor regularly and ensure it is clean before each use.

Soothing Aftercare

After shaving, your skin can be particularly sensitive. Choose a moisturising aftercare product that protects and calms the skin without clogging pores. Use Shower & Bath Oil on your body, applying it directly after your shower on lightly damp skin. For your face, we recommend Beard & Facial Oil and After Shave Lotion.

Keep Your Skin Hydrated

Regularly use Body Lotion Energy, to soften and strengthen your skin’s natural barrier. Well-hydrated skin helps prevent dead skin cells from accumulating on the surface, which can lead to ingrown hairs or inflammation. Opt for a gentle shower gel that cleanses without drying out your skin.

Exfoliate Regularly

A body scrub helps remove dead, dry skin cells. Once your skin is free from the top layer of dryness, the hair can grow out freely, reducing the chance of clogged follicles. Cream Scrub Energy is an effective body scrub with natural granules and Lactic Acid, which should be applied and massaged onto dry skin for the best results. Remember never to exfoliate freshly shaved skin, as it is especially sensitive.

Extra Tip: Use Clean Tools

Whether you shave, wax or use an epilator, always ensure your tools are clean. Dirty tools increase the risk of irritation and inflammation.

Keep in mind

If you often experience issues with folliculitis, give your skin a few days' rest between shaves. This allows your skin to recover and reduces the risk of irritation.
